The two week reboot: February resolutions

Remember those new years resolutions you made to be healthier this year? It is almost February and many of us will have fallen off the band wagon. But here's the thing... A reboot in February is just as effective as the January reboot would have been. So lets jump right back on the band wagon, because your health is under your control and our bodies are our temples!

To recap, Matt and I did a two week reboot starting at the beginning of January. This was not a diet, but rather a way to reset our bodies to prepare for a healthy year. We cut out all added sugar, chocolate (because of the sugar), grains, dairy, coffee and alcohol for the two weeks and just focused on eating vegetables, fruits, legumes, meat, and nuts.

Thinking back, I craved sugar and chocoalte, but I felt better than ever. The cravings eventually went away and I began to crave healthier foods again. Our skin cleared up, our energy was completely restored, and our moods were completely even. Our goal was not to lose weight, so we ate plenty to ensure we maintained our current weight. When the day came when we could have coffee and chocolate again, we immediately went to our stash of dark chocolate bars and ate a piece. Now, Matt has always known that certain brands of chocolate would slightly aggravate his throat and tongue... but with this first bite of chocolate it become obvious that Matt is allergic to chocolate! The tongue and throat became very irritated and painful immediately. We tried a second brand of dark chocolate to verify the results and the same thing happened. And a third, and a fourth, and still the allergy persisted. It simply took 2 weeks without it to realize that the allergy was ever there! Since dairy and grains are the #1 allergens for most Americans, just eliminating these two things for two weeks could do wonders for your health. The amazing thing is that eating these inflammatory, allergenic foods will actually cause seasonal allergies, joint pain, weight gain, and acne, while removing them could help cure these same things.

We are no longer doing the reboot, but Matt has eliminated chocolate (for the most part) and we have only added in the occasional whole intact grain, sheep's milk cheese, and a cheat day. In other words, we are resuming our normal outlook on life which maintains a healthy diet, treating our bodies in such a way that will give our bodies a chance at long term health. We encourage you to explore this and to extend those habits as a lifelong pursuit. Refer to our previous blog post for ideas and suggestions on how to get your health back, lose weight, and cure disease.

I'm right in the middle of classes right now, but I hope to post recipes more regularly. You will see with time, that there is so much freedom in treating your body right, and there should be absolutely no compromise in taste, only more satisfaction. In this journey, The Lord has taught me that it is like most sin in my life. There are many habits for each of us that result in instant gratification. They make us happy here and now, but over time they break us down and bring destruction in our hearts and in our lives. This applies to food too. I'm not saying unhealthy food or indulgences are sinful; don't hear me wrong. What I mean to point out is the accumulation of unhealthy decisions that instantly gratify our cravings, but over time break down our bodies.
